Tam x Obey Sktr

Collaboration

This mural emerges from the meeting of two generations and two visual languages that have shaped the urban space in Portugal: graffiti, represented by Obey Sktr, one of the pioneers of the movement in the country, and street art, through the visual work of Tamara Alves. More than a fusion of styles, this piece is a symbolic gesture that celebrates dialogue, evolution, and the ability of different techniques to coexist in the same space.

At a time when we are often pushed to take sides or split paths, this work proposes the opposite: a future where graffiti and street art do not cancel each other out, but instead complement one another. Where history and the present walk side by side, creating new forms of expression and new possibilities — for those who look, for those who paint, and for those who live the city.

A message of mutual respect, creative freedom, and collective construction.

Mulher Loba

Wolf Woman

This mural draws from Paula Rego’s Dog Women series, where the female body is depicted in raw, instinctive postures — grounded, emotional, and unapologetically physical. The Dog Woman challenges the boundary between human and animal, reason and instinct, revealing a form of femininity rooted in survival, alertness, and the invisible strength of everyday life.

By portraying this hybrid figure — caught between care and resistance — the mural offers a new reading of the body: not as an object of contemplation, but as a site of tension, action, and presence.

    A Wolf Awaits

    by Abbas Kiarostami

Inspired by an haiku from Abbas Kiarostami, this mural transforms the house façade into a symbolic portal between the human and the natural world. A wolf approaches a silver river, while a woman emerges in an ambiguous stance — suspended between reason and instinct, civilization and wildness. Together, they mirror one another, embodying the tension between opposing forces that reside within us.

The windows interrupt the landscape like fragmented mirrors of the human condition. As they look out, the residents are confronted with a sensory extension of themselves — where nature is not just a backdrop, but an integral part of identity.

The Wolf Awaits invites contemplation of the duality we carry: between restraint and desire, presence and instinct.

    A Fera

    Festival NALATA 2024

This mural explores the symbolic fusion between the female figure and the leopard, suggesting they are manifestations of the same primal force. The woman, with her serene yet defiant gaze, seems to emerge from the same essence as the leopard — not as separate beings, but as two facets of a singular strength, silently challenging the viewer with their presence.

The quote by Clarice Lispector — “I am a lit flame! And I shine and shine through all this darkness” — reinforces the idea of an inner, luminous, untamed power that shines within both the woman and the animal. Inspired by the story "Beauty and the Beast", the piece invites viewers to reflect on inner dualities and the power that arises from their fusion.

    WHAT REMAINS IS THE FUTURE

“We go through life. We shed our skins. We become ourselves.” Patti Smith

    CONVERSAS NA RUA 2025

In a sociocultural context where practices of care are often interrupted or weakened, this figure rises as a symbol of resistance and belonging. It is not a representation of a child or of a village, but rather a configuration of the body as a fertile territory; an ontological and symbolic space where life is sown, cultivated, and sustained, protected by the latent strength of an invisible community that supports it.

The hands, marked by the earth, hold the vase as one would guard a promise. The plants that germinate within it are living heirs to the roots that spread through the soil, establishing an organic bond between the figure, the garden, the place, and collective memory.

Partial nudity, far from being read as fragility, asserts itself as a gesture of presence and agency;  a living body, bearer of marks and narratives, that offers itself to light and to the gaze as a testimony of its own historicity.

The work questions and re-inscribes the concept of care, understanding it as a formative process built through shared gestures and affective bonds. At the same time, it reveals the instinctive strength that rises against any attempt at violence or rupture of this vital cycle.

Because to protect is also to cultivate, and to cultivate is, inevitably, an act of resistance.

      Masurca Fogo - WUPPERTAL TANZT
      Pina Bausch Gallery

      MASURCA FOGO

Art meets Art - Dance Art meets StreetArt - Wuppertal meets Lisbon - Tamara Alves meets Julie Shanahan

As part of the Wuppertal tanzt festival, I created a mural inspired by Pina Bausch’s piece Masurca Fogo — An artist I deeply admire, and whose work I had the privilege of experiencing while she was still alive.

Initially, due to the absence of a response regarding permission to portray the amazing dancer Julie Shanahan, I chose to depict a fictional figure. Later, it became clear that the lack of reply was due to a communication issue. Once the authorisation was granted, I returned to Wuppertal to complete the mural with Julie’s portrait. This project was both an enriching artistic experience and a great personal honour.

        The Other Tiger

MAU Quinta do Anjo - Festival

        The Other Tiger
(Jorge Luis Borges, translated into English)

I think of a tiger. The twilight here
Exalts the vast and busy Library
        And seems to set the bookshelves back in gloom;
        Innocent, ruthless, bloodstained, sleek
It wanders through its forest and its day
Printing a track along the muddy banks
Of sluggish streams whose names it does not know
(In its world there are no names or past
Or time to come, only the vivid now)
And makes its way across wild distances
Sniffing the braided labyrinth of smells
And in the wind picking the smell of dawn
        And tantalizing scent of grazing deer;
Among the bamboo’s slanting stripes I glimpse
The tiger’s stripes and sense the bony frame
Under the splendid, quivering cover of skin.
Curving oceans and the planet’s wastes keep us
Apart in vain; from here in a house far off
In South America I dream of you,
Track you, O tiger of the Ganges’ banks.

It strikes me now as evening fills my soul
That the tiger addressed in my poem
Is a shadowy beast, a tiger of symbols
And scraps picked up at random out of books,
A string of labored tropes that have no life,
And not the fated tiger, the deadly jewel
That under sun or stars or changing moon
Goes on in Bengal or Sumatra fulfilling
Its rounds of love and indolence and death.

To the tiger of symbols I hold opposed
The one that’s real, the one whose blood runs hot
As it cuts down a herd of buffaloes,
And that today, this August third, nineteen
        Fifty-nine, throws its shadow on the grass;
But by the act of giving it a name,
By trying to fix the limits of its world,
It becomes a fiction, not a living beast,
Not a tiger out roaming the wilds of earth.

We’ll hunt for a third tiger now, but like
The others this one too will be a form
Of what I dream, a structure of words, and not
The flesh and bone tiger that beyond all myths
Paces the earth. I know these things quite well,
Yet nonetheless some force keeps driving me
In this vague, unreasonable, and ancient quest,
And I go on pursuing through the hours
Another tiger, the beast not found in verse.

I was born when the plants are born

        Rexenera Festival 2024

Inspired by the timeless words of Galician poet Rosalía de Castro, this mural represents the delicate yet powerful essence of life and resilience. A girl holds a burning flower with her mouth, symbolizing the fierce beauty and strength that blooms even in the face of adversity.

Some flowers seem to burn by itself

        NuART Festival 2023

The theme rewilding resonated deeply with my work because I constantly explore the relationship between the human and the wild. For me, rewilding is not just about restoring nature but also about reconnecting with our own instinctive and visceral side.

For my mural at Nuart Festival ‘23, I wanted to explore this idea of liberation and reconnection. So often, we find ourselves trapped in a sense of control, and art has the power to break those barriers. In my creative process, I work a lot with intuition;I let the image emerge as I draw, almost as if the figures were already there, waiting to be revealed.

Some are born to endless nights... //

Site-specific phygital installation created by Tamara Alves and Shaka Lion

During the month of August 2023 Tamara Alves and Dj Shaka Lion took over the iconic tunnel in downtown Albufeira (Algarve) with an immersive intervention called “O Infinito da Noite” (The Infinity of Night). Bringing together the unique creative languages and vision of each artist, this highly experiential installation submerged visitors into a parallel universe filled with imagery and sounds that tapped into our collective imagination of night.

Bringing the visual artist’s unique visual language and the musician’s characteristic beats together, this artwork is a truly immersive experience.
